A Review of Power Conversion Systems and Design Schemes of High-Capacity Battery Energy Storage Systems

Battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are one of the main countermeasures to promote accommodation and utilization large-scale grid-connected renewable sources. With rapid increase in installed capacity BESSs, security problem economic BESSs gradually exposed. On hand, fire accidents happen on occasion; other operation efficiencies battery utilizations not high, resulting considerable losses. In this paper, relationship between construction scheme a BESS power conversion system (PCS) is analyzed. The structures, control methods, grid-connected/islanding strategies PCSs categorized, evaluated, compared detail. And design schemes high as well relevant considerations systematically discussed. test waveforms 10-kV based cascaded H-bridge high-voltage straight hanging PCS shown prove feasibility advanced transformerless scheme. Finally, future development directions high-capacity prospected.
